Home Inspection for water leakage

When it comes to your home, the most common problem people face especially during monsoons are water stains, damp walls, puffed-up paint. Most of us ignore it, thinking that this is a regular occurrence during the monsoon. But in reality, these are all signs of leakages seeping in from the outside.

Water leakage can occur just about anywhere in your house. Be it the ceiling, your bedroom walls, storage room, tiles etc. It is essential to identify these stains and track them down. Tracking down water stains can be difficult as it spreads. But once identified, it can easily be rectified. Fixing leaks is usually pretty easy.

So how does one go about identifying these leakages?

If you see your wall getting damp, look for cracks immediately. Minor leaks can cause major damage. A small leak if not fixed in time can go about causing a lot of damage. It could count you your walls, wooden frames, loosening fittings and fixtures which intern would increase maintenance costs. If you see a small hitch, in your wall try to figure out the source of the leak.  Ideally, home inspection for water leakage is important to find the source of leakage, which can be identified easily with a moisture meter, or thermal scanner. These leaks could be because of a tank placed overhead or your neighbor watering their plants on the ceiling or is it just the rains that are causing the leakage.

Figuring out whether the leakage is from the inside or outside is important. One way of checking if the moisture is from the inside or outside is by taping cardboard to the wall. The wet cardboard side will determine whether the leakage is from the inside or outside. another way is to check the other side of the wall.  If you find the surface wet then you can get it checked with the moisture meter which will tell you the exact moisture level. Few other examples:- if you live just below the terrace and your ceiling is damp, It would be a great idea to go on to your terrace to find the leak is from the terrace floor. Another way of identifying minor leaks is to look for black stains and molds (these are usually caused by moisture).
